Villa Vang Vieng Riverside (Vang Vieng, Laos)

Vang Vieng is having a major reboot at the moment, and although lots of it is under construction, it’s still a peaceful reprieve from the mayhem of Southeast Asia. We stayed in a beautiful new complex on the riverside, with incredible views of both the Nam Song river and the stunning Lao mountains.

Cost

For one night in the middle of July, we paid £47. There are plenty of similar resorts along the riverside so be sure to shop around for the best deal. We stayed in a Standard Double Room but there’s a more expensive room type with a mountain view. This was during the low season so I’m sure prices will be more expensive during the busier summer months. The hotel has a 6.8 rating on Booking.com and breakfast is included in the price.

Decor

The entire complex is traditionally Lao in decor. With a lot of dark wood and carved wood inside both the reception area and the bedrooms, and white bed linens. The complex blends into the countryside and features plenty of greenery and a stunning pool overlooking the river.

Location

Vang Vieng is an incredibly small town, but in relative terms this hotel is pretty far away from the main few streets. Although it’s a ten minute walk from the town centre, the location is necessary for the beautiful river and mountain view.

Rooms

The rooms are all the same in the complex, the only difference being some are overlooking the mountains. They are spacious, each with their own private entrance and parquet floors. They all have individual balconies, air conditioning and free toiletries.

Cleanliness

The rooms were spotless, as was the reception area. The wet and humid climate of Vang Vieng meant there were a lot of washed up leaves and debris around the complex which made the overall look of it a little less appealing. The pool area and dining areas were both well maintained, but the same issue of debris continued there, also.

Staff

The hotel staff were incredibly helpful in assisting us with our transfer on to Luang Prabang and explaining the town’s layout. When we ate dinner at the resort the meal was pleasant and the staff were incredibly attentive. The check in and out processes were seamless and we were left feeling pretty satisfied with the level of service we received.

Overall we were very happy with the stay. The location was beautiful and it was a wonderful break from the fast paced nature of our lengthy trip.
